Mac the Cat – Weight Loss Chronicles, Day 22
September 11, 2018 –Day 22
Weigh in: 19.9 pounds
Weight Loss: 0.4 pounds
Here we are, three weeks into my weight loss journey, and I’m proud to say it’s working. Cutting calories isn’t fun, but I have noticed the humans around here are trying to entertain me in a ploy to increase my activity level. While I’d much rather just lounge in my desk chair all day, they think coming up with creative little games for me to play and providing me with stimulating toys is a good idea. I don’t hate it. The toys are bright colors I can actually see (blue, green, and yellow), which helps. We also played hide and seek with treats, and while I’d rather they just put them in front of me and let me eat them, it was fun to tap into my natural stalking instinct. I did really well at finding all the treats, so the joke’s on them.
If you live with a cat who is “overweight,” you could try some of these tactics. You could also try moving the food bowl around the house so your cat has to walk more to get to it or purchase a “feeding ball” that makes your cat work for their food. Both of these ideas sound absolutely awful to me, but in the spirit of losing weight, I can see how they aren’t terrible ideas.
I’d be glad to talk to your cat about embracing the weight loss journey like I sort of have. Unlike our canine friends, we felines don’t wear our hearts on our sleeves, so it can be difficult to discern our thoughts about new experiences. Trust that even though we look annoyed most of the time, we are on board to do what’s best for our health so we can enjoy many happy years living with you.
